So, what were you doing at 12:30 am the day after Thanksgiving? Probably sleeping, or maybe you were up waiting in line to get some "good deals." Well, I was up, but not to go shopping. We went to Jordan's parents house for Thanksgiving and they live in Nerstrand (by Northfield, about an hour and a half away). We ended up staying there till like 11 pm and thought about staying the night, but decided to go home. We get home and walk in the door and it sounds like the shower is running. To go investigate further, we find that a pipe had burst in the wall between Hailey's room and our bedroom. Hailey's room is flooded, like, there is standing water, but the foundation is uneven so thankfully it didn't reach her crib or changing table. Anyways, we call the office and the office lady and a caretaker come down and start sucking the water up with their machine while we wait for the fix-it guy to come and shut off the water. The funny thing is, this is the 2nd time this has happened. The first time we caught it relatively soon, so it was only a corner in Hailey's room, but the guy supposedly "fixed" it. Well, apparently not good enough. So Jeff gets there and takes off the "access panel" (a piece of dirty plywood that got screwed to the gaping hole cut in the sheet rock) and water is squirting everywhere. There is as much water as physically possible rushing through a 1" diameter pipe. Sweet. Even better, there is no shut of valve. So, after he digs around in the wall, getting pretty wet, he has to leave and go shut off the entire cold water supply. So he does and Mary stays and sucks up as much water as she can and everyone goes to bed (around 2 am). The next day they come and pull up the carpet in Hailey's room and put their ONLY giant fan in there at an attempt to dry the carpet and carpet pad, but not all the wet carpet is being fanned, so they are going to have to replace it anyways because I am willing to bet money (especially from the smell) that there is mold. Also, the night it happened the office lady was talking about how she needed to get in contact with someone to get the walls dried out. Well, after I talked to people who know stuff about construction, sheet rock does not dry. Even if it gets damp it needs to be replaced, otherwise, there will be mold. So I make sure Jordan asks the office people what they are going to do about the carpet and sheet rock. So Jordan asks them and tells them I am concerned about mold and all of a sudden they understand that sheet rock cannot be dried and they are going to replace it, as well as the carpet pad, but they are going to try to save the carpet because apparently they don't make a light cream color anymore?? (I personally think that is a bunch of crap, we have probably the most common carpet color in our apartment...but whatever.) So as of right now, we have a whole bunch of our stuff in the living room and Hailey's room is trying to be dried and there is a little poor excuse for a fan in our bedroom sitting on top of the carpet (it leaked into a corner of our bedroom). So, that was my day after Thanksgiving escapade. Wooo.
