It's a second flood...oh wait, it's only a pipe burst....

So, what were you doing at 12:30 am the day after Thanksgiving? Probably sleeping, or maybe you were up waiting in line to get some "good deals." Well, I was up, but not to go shopping. We went to Jordan's parents house for Thanksgiving and they live in Nerstrand (by Northfield, about an hour and a half away). We ended up staying there till like 11 pm and thought about staying the night, but decided to go home. We get home and walk in the door and it sounds like the shower is running. To go investigate further, we find that a pipe had burst in the wall between Hailey's room and our bedroom. Hailey's room is flooded, like, there is standing water, but the foundation is uneven so thankfully it didn't reach her crib or changing table. Anyways, we call the office and the office lady and a caretaker come down and start sucking the water up with their machine while we wait for the fix-it guy to come and shut off the water. The funny thing is, this is the 2nd time this has happened. The first time we caught it relatively soon, so it was only a corner in Hailey's room, but the guy supposedly "fixed" it. Well, apparently not good enough. So Jeff gets there and takes off the "access panel" (a piece of dirty plywood that got screwed to the gaping hole cut in the sheet rock) and water is squirting everywhere. There is as much water as physically possible rushing through a 1" diameter pipe. Sweet. Even better, there is no shut of valve. So, after he digs around in the wall, getting pretty wet, he has to leave and go shut off the entire cold water supply. So he does and Mary stays and sucks up as much water as she can and everyone goes to bed (around 2 am). The next day they come and pull up the carpet in Hailey's room and put their ONLY giant fan in there at an attempt to dry the carpet and carpet pad, but not all the wet carpet is being fanned, so they are going to have to replace it anyways because I am willing to bet money (especially from the smell) that there is mold. Also, the night it happened the office lady was talking about how she needed to get in contact with someone to get the walls dried out. Well, after I talked to people who know stuff about construction, sheet rock does not dry. Even if it gets damp it needs to be replaced, otherwise, there will be mold. So I make sure Jordan asks the office people what they are going to do about the carpet and sheet rock. So Jordan asks them and tells them I am concerned about mold and all of a sudden they understand that sheet rock cannot be dried and they are going to replace it, as well as the carpet pad, but they are going to try to save the carpet because apparently they don't make a light cream color anymore?? (I personally think that is a bunch of crap, we have probably the most common carpet color in our apartment...but whatever.) So as of right now, we have a whole bunch of our stuff in the living room and Hailey's room is trying to be dried and there is a little poor excuse for a fan in our bedroom sitting on top of the carpet (it leaked into a corner of our bedroom). So, that was my day after Thanksgiving escapade. Wooo.

Ok, I did one...

So I guess I am going to do a Friday Five:

1. Where is the nearest playground slide?
In the apartment complex next to us
2. What’s something you recently let slide?
Well, not so much recently, but over time, I've been putting off my distance education courses...bad Steph
3. Who recently let slide something you did?
I'm not sure I understand the question...but I'm not sure
4. Where is the nearest water slide?
Hmm, the Quarry?
5. When did you last slide down a pole, a rope, or an embankment?
I went snowboarding last Saturday...that's kinda sliding down a hill...

For the lack of Friday Fives...

So, because I know I won't do a Friday Five, I decided to find some other random questions online and do those instead...enjoy!

1. Do you feel the need to say something such as "There you go!" when handing something to another person? Yes, I'm not entirely sure why, maybe just to verbally acknowledge what I am physically doing, I dunno. Maybe it is just a habit. Or, if you hand something to someone in silence, sometimes they don't notice or they don't know exactly what you are doing or if you want them to take it or not, so saying something like "There you go" just reinforces your action and makes everyone feel better.

2. In reference to different regional slang, how do you describe the following things where you're from?

a.) An expensive item (for instance in MN, we use the term "spendy".)
Well, I am in MN and have used the word "spendy" before, though I think I use plain old "expensive" more.
b.) The place where you buy food
Grocery store, store, "out-to-eat," restaurant
c.) The fizzy stuff you generally drink from a can or bottle
pop

Snowboarding!!

So I am super happy. Yesterday I was able to go snowboarding for my birthday at Wild Mountain with my friend Sarah!! It was totally a spur of the moment thing, but it was soo much fun and I am soo glad I was FINALLY able to go! Now I've got the bug and I want to go again and again! Unfortunately, when we went up the chair lift for the last time (unknowingly) Sarah ended up twisting her ankle pretty good, I saw it; her foot was twisted the completely wrong direction, I was surprised it wasn't worse than it is. But she had to be taken down the hill by ski patrol on a tabogon(sp?) and then that was the end of our night. But we got at least 8 or so runs down, so it was good. But yeah, we had a TON of fun and we are already talking about going again when she gets better and more than just one run is open. I am so excted!

I love 1930

So I just realized that I LOVE 1930's music. It has a calming effect on me. I love it. I realized this while I was watching the tail end of Cold Case on CBS. The song I heard was "Always" by Frank Sinatra. I caved and bought it on iTunes. It is like listening to silk. I feel like I could melt. I (heart) Frank Sinatra (pre-1950's). This stuff is way better than the processed music we have today. I wish I could close my eyes and go back in time, immersed in this. (((sigh))) Marvelous.

Here is a link with some cheesy pictures and a not-so-high-quality version of the song, but you get the idea:

Catch-up

So, for Halloween, we didn't really do anything except go outside and take some pictures with our friends Kristine and Graycen. We were hoping to get some really cute ones of them together, but of course they had their own plans in mind.

I went and got my hair done today at the salon, I would post pictures but I went and raked leaves at my mom's house today so it doesn't look so good anymore. I will later. But I really like it, though the stylist suggested we do my eyebrows since I was going darker and I'm still getting used to them...it freaked me out at first! But overall I really like it, if only we could get our hair done at the salon everyday...oh well.

My birthday is coming up on Thursday and I have nothing planned. I just got off the phone with Jordan and tried to talk him into planning me a party, but he didn't sound too enthusiastic about it, we'll see what happens. (fingers crossed)

Speaking of Jordan, he is actually gone this weekend to his parents house deer hunting for the first time in his life. I found out that his friend Josh got one just before sunset, but Jordan didn't get any. They are going out again tomorrow morning-afternoon and he's hoping he'll get one then I'm sure. He is all excited about tanning the hides, another thing he's never done before, should be interesting.

I'm glad it is daylight savings tomorrow, I'll take all the extra time I can get, I still need to write a paper and finish designing my font project. My hair appointment today was from 10:30-1:30. I always end up spending a super long time at the salon because I have so much hair. My stylist had to have people mix her extra hair dye twice. But I also know what I want for Christmas now, a Paul Mitchell flat iron. I didn't think there was a difference between my $20 target flat iron and the $140 salon ones, but holy cow, it is AMAZING! My hair seriously feels like silk. So if you haven't figured it out by now, I want one of the $140 flat irons...it could happen...right?
